Looking back on a strange 2007 season for the Dion Bros.Race Team

11/03/07: A note from Dave...

In all honesty, this past race season was nothing like I had expected, other than I did enjoy my time, more than ever, with my friends and family. The fact that I got to sit home while most of the prestigious races in New England ran without us still leaves an empty feeling for the year. I'm still comfortable with my decisions to not change my philosophy of what real racing i but not "being part of the "big show" still reinforces the feeling of the end is near.

The highlight of the year for all of us seemed to be the Seekonk weekend where we finished second. It really wasn't the good finish that made it so special for us but the fact that we could go home to where it all started and still fit in with the racers that do it week after week and year after year just because they love it. Maybe the fact that most of our finishes on the "Pass" series have been a disappointment this year made just going racing at Seekonk more like the good old days when we were successful.

The team hasn't talked very much about our future but I'm sure we will look at our options for next year and discuss it before too long. I haven't had a chance to speak to Danny since Berlin City was sold so I'm not sure how the new ownership feels about the value of local racing sponsorship like ours. The thought of racing for another sponsor other than Berlin City at this point in our career doesn't seem too appealing at this time. My gut feeling at this time is that if the new Berlin City doesn't value us after all we have done and accomplished together, why would anyone else? I'm at least hoping that I get a chance to meet with Mr. Gullette before they make any decisions, even if in the end it's only to thank them and say good-bye.

We plan on keeping the web page active throughout the winter months and Linda and John (my friend Bob's dad that has a lot of computer knowledge) have been working on a whole new look and format that should "be cool" in my lingo. I would like everyone to get to know the family and friends that make up The Dion Team so we will be featuring profiles now and then.

I would like to thank all the very loyal and passionate "Dion fans" that supported and encouraged us through "the good, the bad,and the ugly" of a strange race season. Through it all the team still showed their "never give up" attitude and determination (remember that disaster at Star?) and through the worst of times showed why they are still one of New England's best.

That should do it for now but check in now and then just in case I decide to fire up the key board.
Take care.

Yours truly,
Dave
